Manchester City have been given a major blow with star striker Sergio Aguero ruled out for the next two months with a freak injury. The striker suffered a broken rib after being involved in a car crash, in a taxi during a holiday in Amsterdam. Dispelling any rumours about his potential exit from Manchester City, Aguero had a brilliant start to the 2017-18 season. He has already come in with seven goals in just eight games for the club. The Argentine also needs just one goal in order to equal the record of Erick Brook, who is the club’s top scorer with 177 goals back in 1939.
However, the injury blow is slightly softened by the international break taking up two weeks of those schedule. Still, the striker will be missing some key matches – including the Champions League game against Napoli and the game against Arsenal at the Emirates stadium.
Pep Guardiola would not have wished for such an injury at a crucial stage in the campaign. Even though the manager still has a wealth of options at his disposal – including Gabriel Jesus, the presence of an experienced striker like Aguero is of paramount importance as City aim to win the Premier League title for the first time since the 2013-14 season. Three years without a league title success has been a disastrous run for the club.
Meanwhile, new reports has confirmed that Manchester City are looking to make a move for Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini. The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Roma before moving to Sassuolo in the summer of 2015 for just £1 million. The brilliant spell at Sassuolo earned him a return back to the Stadio Olimpico this season. The quality of the midfielder has not gone unnoticed after he recently made his debut for the Italian national team.
